Grades and Grit begins another season of celebrating our student athletes in Pinellas County. Today, we recognize Sophia Hernandez-Flores, a Palm Harbor University High School swimmer who has competed at the highest levels, winning medals at states last year and maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA in the demanding International Baccalaureate Program.
Meet this month's Grades and Grit scholar athlete Anthony Simmons from Palm Harbor University High School. Anthony's accolades include being a PCAC Record Holder, State Finalist, Junior and Senior Captain, Most Valuable Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior He is the assistant Swim Coach at the YMCA of the Suncoast, where he works with young swimmers, guides workouts and provides technical advice and encouragement. He is a senior in the International Baccalaureate Program with a 4.59 weighted GPA, 4.0 unweighted GPA and in the top 2% of the senior class.
Meet this month's Grades and Grit scholar athlete Rachael Uvieghara from Palm Harbor University High School. The defending state track champion has her sights on repeating this year and has committed to attend the University of Southern California. Rachael is not only a talented track athlete but also excels in the medical magnet program at PHUHS and hopes to pursue a career as a doctor.
